This is a watershed moment.
Together, we can end childhood sexual violence for good.

Childhood sexual violence is a global health crisis and a human rights violation.

It encompasses all forms of sexual abuse and sexual violence experienced by children, perpetrated by adults or peers. It affects every community, country and culture across the world, with one in five girls and one in seven boys experiencing some form of sexual violence before the age of 18.

We are all likely to be connected to children and adults who are survivors, whether we know their story or not. But sexual violence is not inevitable. The solutions exist, we know what works - and if we act decisively and together, we can end this epidemic.

Our Opportunity

For the first time in history, a world where children live free from sexual abuse is within reach.

Practitioners and researchers have proven

that childhood sexual violence is preventable, with locally-led and evidence-based solutions and tools to keep children safe

A global survivor movement

has broken the silence and stigma, demanded action and built political momentum across the world

The global sector

has a shared roadmap developed by a coalition of hundreds of stakeholders worldwide

Digital technology

has acted as a disruptor, escalating online abuse - but is also a key part of the solution when harnessed to detect and prevent harm

Decades of work by committed field leaders and survivors have created this watershed moment.

But they need our support to catalyze change.

By working together, we can uplift their efforts and build a global movement powerful enough to end childhood sexual violence for good.

Finding solutions

How we can end childhood sexual violence

Prevention

Stops harm before it occurs, addresses risks and strengthens protective factors at the individual, family, community and society-level. Different prevention strategies are tailored to ensure the safety of children of different ages and in different contexts.

Healing

The process for survivors, their families and communities to address the trauma they have experienced and focus on recovering their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. A holistic approach to healing integrates healthcare, justice, housing, education, and social protection.

Justice

True justice requires centering the needs, rights and well-being of children and adult survivors. Justice can take many shapes, including holding perpetrators accountable in both criminal and civil courts.

Taking Action

Taking action has a ripple effect.

When we end childhood sexual abuse, we…

1

Improve global mental health.

Children who grow up free from childhood sexual abuse are less likely to experience depression, substance abuse, and suicide.

2

See happier and healthier adults.

Preventing children from experiencing sexual violence allows them to live out their childhood and establish healthy and secure relationships as they mature into adults.

3

Create safer digital spaces for us all.

We can protect more than 300M children from abuse and exploitation online. By detecting and removing both perpetrators and harmful materials we will ensure that the digital world is a safe place for children to explore and play.

4

Maximise educational success.

The mental health consequences of childhood sexual abuse negatively impact educational outcomes, such as dropout rates. Ending abuse can help boost educational attainment and lower dropout rates. We must give every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.

5

Boost employment and the economy.

We set children up for long-term success, resulting in higher lifetime earnings, better employment outcomes, and improved overall well-being.

We invite you to play a role in this growing community of funders.

By working together, we can change the way the world responds to childhood sexual violence and make safe childhoods a reality for every child.
