Children who grow up free from childhood sexual abuse are less likely to experience depression, substance abuse, and suicide.
Preventing children from experiencing sexual violence allows them to live out their childhood and establish healthy and secure relationships as they mature into adults.
We can protect more than 300M children from abuse and exploitation online. By detecting and removing both perpetrators and harmful materials we will ensure that the digital world is a safe place for children to explore and play.
The mental health consequences of childhood sexual abuse negatively impact educational outcomes, such as dropout rates. Ending abuse can help boost educational attainment and lower dropout rates. We must give every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We set children up for long-term success, resulting in higher lifetime earnings, better employment outcomes, and improved overall well-being.
The Safe Childhoods Initiative was created in 2025 by a group of leading philanthropies, including the Carlson Family Foundation, the Indigo Trust, Oak Foundation, Phillips Foundation, Segal Philanthropies, and the World Childhood Foundation, to change the way the world responds to childhood sexual violence. The initiative is currently being incubated at Panorama Global, a global social impact nonprofit.
